Reducing flare ups in CRPS
May 27, 2025
Hey there!
I want to introduce you to someone who has achieved remission of their CRPS.
Meet Rachel!
Rachel had CRPS since 2020 and other chronic conditions including FND, ME/CFS, and fibromyalgia.
The picture was the day that she wrapped up her program with full remission of her CRPS.
She shows some of the treatment she had with re+active on her instagram post here, including what she does for nervous system regulation!
CRPS involves many physical, neurological, psychosocial, and lifestyle factors, causing a disconnect between brain and body. While treating CRPS involves individualized strategies (targeting maintaining factors unique to you), a common finding in CRPS is a heightened neurophysiological response to the environment and disconnect between brain and body.
Physiological responses may not be obvious but they influence body control on a neuronal level. Rachel learned to “tune-in” and regulate the nervous system to bring safety to the brain and body and helps you regain control. Here are some of our favorite nervous system regulation strategies (& some that Rachel did throughout her program).
Breath serves as a window into the nervous system. Prolonging the exhale and relaxing our breath is a way in which we can strengthen the parasympathetic part of the nervous system. However, focusing on our breath via traditional practices can sometimes increase feelings of discomfort and disconnection for people with CRPS. (Click the photo for ideas of externally focused breathwork).
Sensory grounding helps us connect with the “here and now,” grounding us with reality and enhancing feelings of safety
- What would it feel like to pick it up? How much weight would you notice? Texture?
- What elements of this object attract your attention? How much detail can your eyes pick up ?
- What sound does this object convey? Does it make a noise if dropped or moved?
- What smell does your chosen item evoke? Is there an associated taste as well?

Cheers to being the expert of your own body!
